About our Dressmaking / Sewing  Classes . . .

General:

Learn dressmaking in a small relaxed class (maximum of 8 students) making your own chosen project.  You will learn lots of different techniques from the other students projects.
Perfect for the beginner or experience sewer to improve their skills.

Classes are run in 4 week terms for 3 hours per week.

      Tuesday:   10.00am to 1.00pm   or  6.30pm to 9.30pm
      Thursday: 10.00am to 1.00pm   or  6.30pm to 9.30pm


What you will learn:

During the term, you will be making your chosen garment and will learn:

  • Dealing with different fabrics
  • Measuring for correct fit
  • Understanding commercial patterns
  • Basic pattern alterations
  • Cutting & Fitting your garments
  • Care and use of your machine
  • Sewing techniques - seams, finishes etc
  • All about interfacing, trims, zippers etc
  • Making button holes
  • Easy hemming
  • And lots more including insider trade secrets !!

With students all making different garments, you will get the opportunity to interact and learn different techniques.


Fees & Conditions:

  • Fees:   $190 per term of 4 weeks

    Deposit of 50% ($95) must be paid with enrollment at least 2 weeks before the first class of term.
    Balance must be paid 2 weeks before the first class of term.
    Refunds will only be given if the class is cancelled.
    Your spot will not be secured without payment !!
  • Enrolment:   You can enroll online or contact us if you would prefer the old paper method.   Once your class position has been confirmed, I will email you with confirmation.
  • Makeup classes:   To be fair to the other students, makeup's will only be available subject to our maximum of 8 students per class limit and only during the current fully paid term.

  • Note:  All classes are subject to a minimum of 5 students.

What to bring to class:

  • A commercial pattern (Butterick or Simplicity) for the garment you want to make. This should be a very simple style for your first attempt.
  • WOVEN COTTON or COTTON POLYESTER fabric for your chosen pattern. The back of the pattern will tell the amount or the store can help.  (NO KNITS  -  NO STRETCH FABRICS  -  NO BLACK FABRICS)
  • Threads, buttons, trims, zipper etc for your garment.
  • Sharp scissors, tape measure, pins (prefer with plastic head), sewing needles.
  • Your sewing machine with its instructions.  (Not required for the first lesson).
  • Notebook and pen.
  • A BIG friendly smile.
